Welcome to the Espeletia page!This webpage is designed to share information on the Espeletia complex, a group of plants in the sunflower family (Asteraceae) that has undergone a spectacular evolutionary radiation in the Andes mountains of northwestern South America. Among the 100 or so species in this group are giant rosettes, tiny sessile rosettes, shrubs and tall trees, all adapted to the unique challenges of the tropical montane environment.Follow the links below to learn more about this amazing group of plants and the páramo ecosystem in which they live. |
